Unless you have very fast connection and a nice big fat download limit movies from the iTunes store will be a little pointless. I'm not saying being able to download a feature length movie wouldn't good but until the net goes faster and download limits increase I can't really see too many people downloading.
If the price of the download is similar to the DVD I'll be buying the DVD, I still like having a tangible product.

Somebody who is bored on a Friday night with nothing better to do, who does not feel like driving out to the local video rental store. Howabout being able to download it on your computer for $4.99 for a 5 day rental.
Seeing that I just got Batman Begins for $5 from Blockbuster, I think $4.99 to rent it a bit extreme.

You cannot CUT and paste in SL, only COPY and paste using the built in OS shortcuts.
I hate having to open two folders just to drag a file to MOVE it, so I had to pay $4 in the MAC App Store to get that functionality...Here you go (http://lifehacker.com/#!5622046/cut-and-paste-files-in-os-xs-finder-with-automator-services). Yes, it's not built in, but that doesn't mean it can't be made to work. Meanwhile, while some have tried, there is still no good hack to put expose into Windows. At least not one I've seen. Someone gets that working, then we're in business :cool:

I am not even sure if iPhone will be out for a while. Because assume the patient drawings on appleinsider is true, then it is likely that Apple might install iSight in the iPhone. (camera feature of the phone)
I am most expecting the iPhone to be a pda, rather than a mobile phone. Most likely a 3G phone. iChat, iCal, Address Book, and lite version of Mail and safari is what i would expect to see. Even iTunes and Quicktime. Lite version of course. (most essential would be ical, addressbook, mail)

Can I also add, I think it is extremely unlikely apple would do the slide down for the numpad. Because teh slider would impair your touch on the pad and make it uncomfortable, especially for long txt.
Because of all this, we will have to wait a bit, until Apple are able to pack all this into a small phone which I don't think they want to be maximum 1.5 size larger than Ipod Nano (and probably will be thicker but too thick)

I am curious about something. Intel is apparently having difficulty dealing with ATI, which is owned by AMD. Is this a problem for Apple that is limited to notebooks only? It seems like the new MBP doesn't have this same problem, except in the 13" model. Is this problem going to affect Apple's desktop machines? Or is it only limited to the very small laptops and perhaps the Mac Mini? I am just curious because it doesn't appear that the MBP 15 & 17" are effected. I do hope that this makes sense. I have been waiting to see the next versions of the Mac Book and the iMac. I would like to have a portable and I don't care or need a laptop that is a quarter of an inch in thickness or if it weighs a pound more than a Mac Book Air.

Sure is overpriced! Over in Australia it's around $1200. The one good thing I liked was the diamond coated dsiplay. It was scratch proof. Maybe apple should diamond coat their iphone! :p
EDIT: Actually I just did a bit of research. I think my claim that they diamond coated their displays is false. No one take my word on it.

Have you ever been to a tech convention? It is *not* a free-for-all where people roam around handing out fliers anywhere on the convention floor. Vendors are expected to stick to their designated booth that they paid for. Conventions make money by charging for floorspace. What kind of leverage would they have to charge for premium or larger floorspace, if vendors could just get the smallest booth possible, but then flood the convention floor with people handing out brochures? Even though Greenpeace is not a vendor and probably received their booth space pro-bono, they should still stick to the convention floor rules.

I hope Apple releases an iPod software update so those of us who already own 5th generation iPods can take advantage of all these new features.
From what I saw in the presentation stuff, 5G iPods get everything software related; movies, gapless playback, and games.

This is a huge concern because of the use by law enforcement (http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20055431-1.html) of the Cellebrite device to download and scrutinize the data in cell phones. Apparently, police departments in Michigan are using this device when pulling drivers on traffic violations. Here (http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/34/3458.asp) is another article on the use in Michigan.

i wonder if this all started because of the damned "green revolution" which increased crop yields dramatically using petroleum based fertilisers and of course caused the population to explode globally?
it makes sense in a perverse way. job growth can't keep up with population growth...
now, another awful thing is a lot of western societies have this strange sense of entitlement... that certain jobs are beneath them, so they all strive to be white collar professionals but that's completely unsustainable... this explains, in the UK at least, the gross number of students who go to university and have degrees but the poor employment prospects for graduates.
so far so bad, right?
add consumerism to the mix and it's little wonder that people are placated by taking out loans to buy things they can't afford normally. but to have these things the companies which produce them need a cheap source of labour, so they outsource, so areas which were traditionally big on manufacturing decay and shrink, the people moving to already congested mega cities.
they should teach buddhism in primary schools, it might stem the consumerist tide.

The Yonah is not related to Intel's big disaster chip, the Pentium D 810, but was botched to the point that the engineers turned off EMT64!
Really? I had understood that Yonah was close architecture wise to the previous Pentium M, while Merom represents the first "true" Core architecture.

Obviously the images are copyrighted by Apple, and those images they don't want people using. Ok, well, that is their rights, they designed them and copyrighted them.
For the benefit of others who don't bother to read the article, the images in question are provided by a system API on OS X. The API is *provided* to give developers images they can use to represent the current computer, and is supposed to be used that way. All RA have done is used those same images to transmit from the desktop to the iPhone, to show the user which computer they're connecting to.
Some idiot reviewer at Apple has seen the images and decided that since they're displayed on an iPhone they're infringing one of the many incredibly vague rules in the SDK. Given the completely borked review process, it's unlikely to be rectified, and has wasted a lot of everyone's time - there's no way to know in advance which rules the reviewer may decide to impose - almost every app could be seen to infringe one of them. Like the iPhone book app rejection and many others for different obscure reasons, this is a case of a sensible rule interpreted in an insane way.
Can't blame the developers at all for walking away from the frustrating, capricious waste of time which is iTunes store approvals, and good on them for publicising this; taking three months to even give a firm reason for rejection is a real failure on Apple's part, and the entire process is a train wreck.
If Apple doesn't defend their copyright, then they can lose it, so they HAVE to fight for it.

We waited 334 days for this? That is how long we went without an iPod update, by far the longest gap in updates, and all we get is larger storage capacity and a few new games?

Last quarter, Apple sold just over 8 million iPods, down from a peak of over 14 million 2 quarters ago. The reason is because people bought new iPods, and there was no reason to replace them because it took Apple so long to update the models. Now, after all of the wait (nearly a year) and speculation about 16x9 video iPods, touch-screen controls, wireless capabilities, etc., I think this update will go mostly unnoticed to consumers and iPod sales will continue to fall. Apple needs to drastically change and improve iPod offerings if it wants to maintain its market advantage and keep the iPod fashionable.

A few Nokia users I know are going to either get an iPhone or Android phone. Most are upset that they went with Windows Mobile instead of Android.

I can't remember. Anyway, I still can't see Apple magically being able to offer HD films and all this wireless streaming malarky of gigantic files at this point. I've got a 10 meg net connection, but I don't want to not be able to use the internet for 6 hours or so while iTunes downloads a 6gig movie file.
All I'm looking for is a way to play my archive of DVD backups straight to our HDTV. Sure the quality will only be comparable with current DVDs, but for me, at the moment that is fine. In the UK I don't think you can even buy any dedicated HD players yet? I may be wrong (I think Toshiba is releasing one in October). Actually, being in the UK the whole Movie Store idea isn't going to affect us for at least a couple of years.
It annoys me that my iTunes music collection is slowly being taken over by Podcasts. I wish there was a way of having them listed in a seperate library. I hate listening to a tune and then it moves onto a Podcast without me realising.
I also hate the way that iTunes is being expanded into visual things. iTunes Movie Store is like saying iEars iEyes Store. I hope they rebrand the movie aspect; the 'Showtime' name to me seems perfect.
Also, if it really is 'Showtime', I hope Apple have thought of every angle over the last year or so and release the fabled iPod Video with touch screen to compliment the streaming solution.

Face it Apple left the biggest gap between the iMac and the Pro machine ever! There was no crippled tower to span the distance between the two. Apple wants to expand market share. They have a power processor that will not step on the toes of the machine above or below. Why wouldn't they use it. Before all the desktops ran the G5. It was difficult to provide product differentiation without gobbling sales up internally. Here the highest end Conroe cannot match the lowest end dual Woodcrest at highly threaded apps. This is a win-win situation. It will either come out on Tuesday or another special event in early october.I sure hope you are right. I totally agree with your analysis.It will be headless and upgradable to attract the Windows gamers. They already have monitors, keyboards and mice. A little BootCamp goes a long way.I want this to be where Kentsfield and Tigerton wind up for less than $2k. The existing base of over 25 Million Mac owners also already have this stuff. Face it Apple left the biggest gap between the iMac and the Pro machine ever! There was no crippled tower to span the distance between the two. Apple wants to expand market share. They have a power processor that will not step on the toes of the machine above or below. Why wouldn't they use it. Before all the desktops ran the G5. It was difficult to provide product differentiation without gobbling sales up internally. Here the highest end Conroe cannot match the lowest end dual Woodcrest at highly threaded apps. This is a win-win situation. It will either come out on Tuesday or another special event in early october.I sure hope you are right. I totally agree with your analysis.It will be headless and upgradable to attract the Windows gamers. They already have monitors, keyboards and mice. A little BootCamp goes a long way.I want this to be where Kentsfield and Tigerton wind up for less than $2k. The existing base of over 25 Million Mac owners also already have this stuff. But they will come with a keyboard and mouse. :)

I just called three local Apple Stores in the Seattle area and not a single one has the new iMacs in stock. Is this happening to everyone else? I really wanted to pick mine up today!
I stopped by my local Apple store and had a similar experience. Actually, it was a bit worse... they still had the old iMacs out and when I asked about the new ones, I was told "What new iMacs?"

Just purchased the latest refresh of the MacBook Pro to replace a a 2006 model, and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I had a hunch the next refresh would be a case redesign, still no regrets.
